A postcard on the Sacred Bo tree at Anuradhapura (අනුරාධපුරය). This sacred tree is known as Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi (ජය ශ්රී මහා බොධිය). Planted in Mahamewna Garden, it is said to be the right-wing branch of the original tree where Lord Buddha attained Enlightment. This ancient city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed under the name "
Sacred City of Anuradhapura". Thanks
Mikram.
An Rs25 stamp on Queen’s Tower and an Rs10 stamp on pavilion
were used. They were cancelled by two faint postmarks of Colombo General
Hospital. Date of postmark is not clear.
