A surprise postcard from Amarilis through this blog...

Several views around Luxembourg City and the its coat of arms. Upper right is the building at Lower Town of Grund (Ville Basse du Grund). Marché-aux-poissons (Fish Market) with the National History Museum by the Alzettein River on the upper left. Mother and Child Sculpture (Mère et Enfant) by Englisg sculptor, Henry Moore at the lower right. FInally, the lower left shows the Luxembourg City Hall (L'Hôtel de Ville). Among these structures, Marché-aux-poissons is within the old quarter of the city, which is listed in UNESCO Heritage List under the name "City of Luxembourg: its Old Quarters and Fortifications". Thanks.















This card was sent inside an envelope from Luxembourg CT on 9.6.2009. The meter cancellation is "EEN ZUCH AN D'ZUKUNFT". The stamps are 0,20 € European Union stamp, another 0,20€ fire engine truck stamp and a non-value indicated "A" stamp with its label (an old telephone).

The mosaic (mosaico de aquiles) of the Roman town of La Olmeda (Villa Romana "La Olmeda"), Pedrosa de La Vega, Palencia. This place was part of Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis. The mosaic shows the hunters and their hunts. It was discovered by the archeologist in 1968. Thanks namiet.
















It was sent from CTA Madrid on 10.6.2009 using a €0,78 International Polar Year Stamp. Another typical Madrid's machine cancellation.

Aurora Borealis (Revontulet), the northern polar light. When the particles of the solar wind hit the atmosphere of the Earth, the oxygen of the air flares in a greenish light. This natural phenomena occurs particularly near the Poles area. Thanks kiraffi.















A 1 luokka (1st Class) irregular shape of the Finnish flag stamp was used. It was sent from Kuopio on 10.6.2009.

Mariyinsky Palace (Маріїнський палац) is a former Russian Tsars' residence in Kiev (Kyiv). It is situate on the hilly bank of Dniper River. Currently, this palace is the official ceremonial residence of the President of Ukraine. Thanks mindanao.















This postcard was sent together with another unwritten postcard of St. Petersburg inside an envelope. Four stamps were used. They are ₴3.30 South Pole stamp, two different design ₴1.00 cat stamps and one 10k jar stamp. Altogether, the postage paid was ₴5.40. They were send from Kyiv on 4.6.2009.

Shanghai scenery with Pudong District (浦东区), as view from Huangpu District (黄埔区). The Huangpu River (黄浦江) separates this two districts and can be seen in this postcard. On the Pudong side, the Oriental Pearl Tower (东方明珠电视塔) is seen at the left side. While, another high rise building, Jin Mao Tower (金茂大厦), is on the right. Thanks flying_carrot.













A 4.50 Yuan environmental definitive stamp was used to send this postcard on 8.6.2009. Apparently, the bottom of the postmark is not clear. This card was definately sent from Shanghai (上海) and at the bottom two characters are visible but not identified. The office that did the cancellation might be from Huangpu 46 (黄埔 46), as it is where the sender from.

This is a advertisement postcard to promote a movie. Christmas Story, the English name for a Finnish movie by Juha Wuolojoki. Its Finnish name is Joulutarina. Thanks mingchu.













A 6 Yuan bird definitive stamp was used to send this postcard. So far, this is the highest postage used. Normally, it is between 3 Yuan and 4.50 Yuan. It was sent from Guangdong Shenzen Pinxin 2 (广东 深圳 平信2) on 5.6.2009. "Pinxin" is ordinary mail. However, it is an airmail rate with a red color "Par Avion" marking. So, as long as the stamp is cancelled, the wrongly used postmark is not an issue here.

Commemorative postcard for the 22nd Universal Postal Congress Beijing 1999. The ID for this postcard is JP79(4-3)1999. The design shows a girl in front of the stone column or huabiao (华表) at Tiananmen. This postcard is issued with a 420 fen pre-printed stamp with the same design. Additional three 10 Fen environmental definitive stamps were added to increase the postage to 4.50 Yuan, the international airmail rate for postcard. It was sent from Guangdong Guangzhou Baiyun-guoji-jichang 2 (广东 广州 白云国际机场2) on 9.6.2009. "Baiyun-guoji-jichang" is Baiyun International Airport in Chinese. Thanks semper_fi.

Fairy chimney rock formation in Cappadocia, an ancient name for the central Anatolia. It is famous for the dwellings inside the rock formation. This postcard is at Zelve in the Nevşehir Province. It is part of the UNESCO Heritage List with the title "Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia". Thanks Haraldur.














A 65 Yeni Kuruş scenery stamp on Bartin was used. "Yeni"means new and 100 Kuruş is 1 Lira. This stamp was cancelled with a round shape postmark of Küçükbakkalköy on 6.6.2009.

A postcard from Burghausen, Altötting in Upper Bavaria, Germany. It is near the border with Austria. This city has the longest castle in Europe. The city view is shown on the upper right, where the castle is on the upper part. The others are views inside the old town. Thanks JaniD.














This postcard was sent with two contemporary flower definitive stamps (10 cents and 90 cents). Therefore, a Euro to send this card. It was machine cancelled at Briefzentrum 80 on 14.6.2009. Briefzentrum 80 is the centre at Munich. The pictorial cancellation is Messe München International.

Altogether, it is 98 cents for sending this card.

A postcard that shows the multifaceted of Melbourne, Australia. On the upper low, from left to right, it shows the Crown Entertainment Complex; Yarra River; and Melbourne sports precint. For the middle low, it shows Bathing Boxes, Brighton; little penguins, Philip Island; and the Twelve Apostles near Port Campbell. A $1.35 hourglass dolphin with WWF theme stamp for international post was used to send this postcard. Stamps for international destinations and domestic addresses are different. This postcard was processed in Dandenong Letters Centre, Victoria on 16.6.2009 using a round shape hand stamp.

Galveston, Texas was a sea port and the gateway to the Southwest during the 19th Century. It is also the home for several historical ships, like the tall ship Ellisa (the official tall ship of Texas) at the Texas Seaport Museum, as shown in this postcard. This postcard was sent from Houston TX 772 on 12(?).6.2009. The machine cancellation quite blur. It was posted with the latest postage rate of 98 cents. The stamps used include a 94 cents Trunk Bay airmail stamp together with 3 cents star stamp and a 1 cent Tiffany lamp stamp.

Terrance rice fields (梯田) in Guilin (桂林), one of the famous agricultural technology blended with the natural environment found in China. This one is the autumn view of the Longji Jinkeng at Dazhai Yao Terrance Scenic View Area (龙脊金坑·大寨瑶族梯田观景区). This area is located in the Longsheng Autonomous County (龙胜自治县), northwestern Guilin Prefecture-level City. There are several other terrance rice fields in the vicinity too. Four 1.20 Yuan new year drawing stamps (2008-2, 4-4) were used to send this postcard from Guilin. The cancellation is Guangxi Guilin Guoji 1 (广西 桂林 国际 1). "Guoji" means international. So, the mail for international destinations are cancelled with this postmark.

A commemorative postcard on 2008 Olympic Games Touch Relay in Guilin (桂林) on 6.6.2008. Although the date was schedule on 4.6.2009, it was delay due to national day of mourning the victims of 2008 Sichuan Earthquake. A red colored square box was stamped on the bottom for the update. It shows the river scenery of Lijiang River (灕江) near Guilin, with a traditional water transport. Thanks semper_fi.














This postcard has a pre-printed 80 Fen "Dancing Beijing" stamp. Additional stamps added are two 1.20 Yuan new year drawing (2008-2, 4-4), a 80 Fen greetings stamp and a 60 Fen environmental definitive stamp. Altogether, the postage paid for sending this postcard is 4.60 Yuan. It was sent from Guangxi Yangshuo Gaotian 1 (广西 阳朔 高田 1) 0n 11.6.2009. Apparently, the stamps were not cancelled. So, when it arrived at Guilin, the stamps were cancelled with Guangxi Guilin Guoji 1 (广西 桂林 国际 1) postmark. "Guoji" means international.

A drawing on heritage of Seshui (澀水). This place is located in Yuchih Township, Nantou County (南投縣魚池鄉). After the 921 Earthquake, during the rebuilding of this place, some of its heritage was uncovered. These included its pottery and red tea. Thanks yenning.















This postcard was sent from Taipei on 12.6.2009. Two out of five stamps of the 1992 series traditional toy stamps were used. They are walking on ironpots and chopstick gun.

Early spring in the deep lane (古巷春早) in southern part of Ahhui Province (安徽 or 皖). The landscape of Southern Ahhui (皖南) is dominated by hilly land. The old quarter of the city is built according to this landscape. Thanks DJK.

Additional 50 Fen Outlaw of the Marsh (水浒传) stamp (1997-21,4-2) was added. This cover was cancelled with red-color Guangzhou Changganglu (Tongqu) 1 on 15.6.2009. The characters in Chinese is 广州 昌岗路 (筒取) 1. "Tongqu" means taken out of mailbox.
